A welcome to the E-SWAN Newsletter! (by Luca Spogli, President of E-SWAN)

Almost one year has passed since the E-SWAN foundation and many initiatives are rising to make E-SWAN grow into a valuable tool in the hands of the Space Weather and Space Climate community. Three are the pillars of the European Space Weather and Space Climate community - the European Space Weather Week, the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate and the International Space Weather and Space Climate Medals - and the E-SWAN committees are working hard to keep them at the forefront. Among the new initiatives, all the ten Working Groups have already had their kick-off meetings between February and March 2023. Their activities, undertaken by volunteers (17.6% out of the up to now 235 E-SWAN members) are meant to serve the community and to encourage an active participation in mapping out its future. It is never too late and you can always contact us if you are interested in jumping into one of the working groups.  In this fervent atmosphere of novelty, it is an immense pleasure to inaugurate the E-SWAN Newsletter. It has been conceived to be concise and to monthly update the community on the E-SWAN world (news from committees and working groups), and other useful information such as employment opportunities and event announcements. Before letting you enjoy this first newsletter, I invite those of you attending the EGU General Assembly to join the E-SWAN townhall meeting (see details below). It will be the occasion to celebrate the 1st year of E-SWAN together and to get detailed information about the future plans.

Looking forward to meeting you in Vienna and enjoy the reading!

Luca Spogli,

President of E-SWAN
